Pre-diabetes affects about 16.4% of Australian adults. People with prediabetes are at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and heart disease.
With current usage, prediabetes can be applied as a label for a disorder or as a risk category for diabetes and cardiovascular disease. There is no clear evidence which of these has greater clinical utility.
